Course Code: IDT-TE-HS
Course Title: Hybrid STEM Teaching and the Flipped Classroom
Instructor: Michael G. Hines, M.Ed.
Course Description:
The Hybrid STEM Teaching and the Flipped Classroom course is designed for mathematics and science teachers seeking to enhance their understanding and proficiency in dividing learning deliberately between individual and group learning spaces. Over four comprehensive modules, participants will explore the shift to student-centred facilitation, the TPACK framework, the design of pre-class concept-readiness work, and the structuring of active in-class time using inquiry, cooperative learning, and physical textbooks. This course offers educators practical insights, diverse examples, and invaluable strategies to synthesize these elements into effective hybrid STEM lesson plans using components of the 5-Step and 5E models.
Upon completion of this course, teachers will possess a comprehensive understanding of hybrid learning and flipped methodologies. They will be equipped with the knowledge and tools needed to design well-structured pre-class assignments, manage engaging face-to-face active learning sessions, and draft complete flipped lesson outlines tailored to their own classrooms. By mastering these principles, educators will be better prepared to meet the diverse needs of their STEM students and facilitate meaningful educational experiences.
The course covers four (4) modules:

Part 1: Friday, 10/16/2026 - 4:00 PM to 5:30 PM BKK time
Module 1 delves into the foundational concepts of hybrid learning in STEM, providing participants with a clear understanding of the shift from teacher-centred lecturing to student-centred facilitation and the TPACK framework.
Module 2 focuses on the crucial process of creating a flipped classroom model. Participants will explore the design of effective pre-class work, the use of diverse media, and the creation of concept-readiness videos using the IQ Candy App.
Part 2: Saturday, 10/17/2026 - 9:00 AM to 10:30 AM BKK time
Module 3 revolves around structuring active in-class STEM activities, a fundamental component of maximizing face-to-face time. Participants will develop skills in utilizing inquiry-based methods, cooperative learning structures, and blending physical textbook work with bench activities.
Module 4 immerses participants in the art of designing hybrid STEM lesson plans, providing insights into structural models such as the 5-Step and 5E learning cycles. Participants will apply these components to draft a complete, comprehensive flipped lesson outline.
